Police in the Karas Region are claiming success in smashing a major stock-theft operation which has landed seven suspects behind bars.
Deputy Police Commissioner Johannes Tsuseb said senior officials worked throughout the weekend to bust the operation.
He said the Police recovered 80 sheep that allegedly had been stolen from the farm Swartstormlaagte in the Karasburg district.
The stolen sheep were recovered at local auction kraal, abattoir and a resettlement farm in the Karasburg district.
Five suspects were arrested and will appear in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court today, said Tsuseb.
A tip-off from the public led to the suspect’s arrest.
According to Tsuseb, two of the five suspects have pending stock-theft cases and were recently released on bail of N$8 000.
In another incident, Police recovered 51 stolen sheep on Thursday.
Tsuseb said two suspects were arrested and will appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court today.
