One-month old baby stolen at Tema Community One market

A one-month old baby girl was on Wednesday afternoon stolen from her mother at the Tema Community One market.

Barikisu Mahamadu is the baby’s mother and she told Adom News that her baby was stolen by a woman who had offered to help her get better accommodation instead of where she was sleeping with her baby; the Kantamanto market in Accra.

She said she is a porter at the Kantamanto market and that is where she got to know the woman who was also at the market and she (Barikisu) put her baby’s care in the woman’s hands.

Barikisu, who cannot speak even a word of Twi, said on Wednesday the woman asked her to accompany her to a relative’s house in Tema to collect money.

She said when they arrived at Tema Community One they went to eat at a restaurant near the market and while they were eating, the woman excused herself to visit the bathroom but absconded with the baby leaving Barikisu in tears.

With the help of people around, Barikisu reported the matter to the Tema Community One police station which has mounted a search for the baby.

According to Chief Inspector Olivia Turkson, Public Relations Officer of the Tema Police Command, who accompanied Barikisu to Adom FM, they have put personnel on alert and per the description given of the woman, they will pursue her.

She appealed to the general public to assist the police with the necessary information to arrest the baby thief.
