Spio has boosted Konadu’s chances – Kofi Adams

Mr Kofi Adams, spokesperson for the former first couple, has noted that Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah’s picking of nomination forms to join the flagbearership race of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) would not affect Mrs Rawlings’ chances of emerging as winner after the July 8th Congress.

The move, according to him, has rather boosted Mrs Rawlings’ chances because she has gained more grassroots supporters.

Just before closing nominations on Tuesday May 10, Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah picked his nominations form to increase the number of persons contesting the NDC’s flagbearership slot to three. The contestants are: President J.E.A. Mills who is seeking re-election, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah who is vying for the position for the second time.

Dr Spio-Garbrah said ahead of picking his forms, that he hoped his joining the contest would nuetralise the tension between President J.E.A. Mills’ camp and that of the former first lady, but Mr Kofi Adams has said he would have wished Dr Spio-Garbrah had stayed away from the contest.

In an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Wednesday, Kofi Adams alleged that some delegates were being intimidated in order to scare them from endorsing Nana Konadu’s forms in some constituencies in the Ashanti region as well as in the Agona District.

The spokesperson was hopeful the delegates would be truthful to those they represent and vote for the candidate who enjoys the support of the grassroots.
