The Campaign Coordinator for Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings in the flagbearership elections of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) says he has been receiving death threats.
Mr Michael Teye Nyaunu, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Lower Manya Krobo says he has received calls and text messages from people threatening to kill him if he does not stop following Mrs. Rawlings and campaigning for her.
Joy News’ Sammy Darko called him up and asked if he is taking any of the threats seriously, to which he responded in the affirmative.
He is sure the threats are certainly from within the NDC because some of the texts accuse him of trying to destroy the NDC.
“They use private numbers so it comes on your screen Private Number, you can’t get the real number and when you try to call back it cannot go through,” he said.
The outspoken critic of the Mills-administration said he probably would have ignored the threats if they were just one or two “but if you receive as many as six times, it is something that must be of concern.”
He dismissed suggestions that he fabricated the death threats to court sympathy votes for the former first lady whose campaign is believed to be foundering.
“What will be the motivating factor? If at my level like this I should cook up something like this, what is going to benefit me? I’m not a boy, I’m a man,” he snapped.
Mr Nyaunu is yet to report the threats to the police but maintains he has on his own taken serious precautionary measures.
