A confidante of the Rawlingses, Herbert Mensah alleged they have intercepted and listened to security tapes from the Castle which confirms their allegations.
He would not however make public details of the said tape, except to say in an interview with Adom FM that the tapes would be made available at the appropriate time.
But the Deputy Local Government Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has described the allegations as “preposterous.”
He told Joy News’ Dzifah the allegation is false and is part of unfortunate strategy to dent the integrity of the president.
He argued the integrity of the president is unassailable having served the country in various public offices for nearly three decades.
According to him, the Mills campaign team has embarked on a fund raising campaign to execute a successful election with the Deputy Transport Minister, Dzifa Ativor charged to go round and collect pledges from well wishers.
He said even though President Mills has vowed not to engage in politics of insults, he will not hesitate to bring the facts out any time false allegations are made against him.
Afriyie Ankrah challenged Mr. Mensah and the Rawlingses to make the said tapes available to the public or desist from making wild allegations against the president.
He wondered why it is only the Rawlingses who appear to have access to controversial tapes implicating public officials of perceived wrong doings – tapes which he said have never been made known to the public.
“They should play the security tapes and let all Ghanaians hear it. We’ve heard stories about tapes from the murder of women; tapes about Ya-Na; everyday it only some people who only hear tapes in their bedroom. It is about time all of us heard those tapes. It is not fair,” he lamented.
Mr. Ankrah noted the amount being peddled is so huge, saying President Mills would never contemplate spending such an amount on the NDC primary and called on the security services to launch an investigation into the allegation.
He said the president does not need such an amount to win the primary, insisting Mills would beat Konadu hands down without having to dish out money to delegates.
He also dismissed allegations of incumbency, saying, President Mills used his own campaign vehicles as well as his campaign office in Osu Kuku Hill in the picking of forms.
