This was when the leading radio station organized a free breast and eye screening for women in Kumasi and nearby communities.
The historic event formed part of activities by the radio station to mark this year’s Mothers Day celebration.
In all about 4000 women, some from as far as the Northern region, traveled to Kumasi to have their eyes and breasts screened free of charge.
Angel Fm embarked on the commendable gesture via the able support of Breast Care International Ghana, Peace and Love Hospital and Sandford Eye Care Centre.
In an interview with Health Matters , the station’s CEO, Dr. Kwaku Oteng said the gesture was part of his outfit’s social responsibilities.
He promised to make the event an annual affair and showered praises on Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, President of Breast Care International Ghana for her vital role in curbing breast cancer.
After the screening exercise patients that were diagnosed with breast cancer were given free drugs and professional advice on how to live their lives.
Dr. Wiafe Addai, who is also the CEO of Peace and Love Hospital, said breast cancer is curable if it is identified early.
She therefore implored women to report to the hospital for proper treatment whenever they feel any sensation in their breasts stressing that early detection is the key to curing breast cancer.
Dr. Addai said the free breast screening exercise is a prelude to an international walk to be held Kumasi on May 25 to sensitize people about breast cancer.
According to her, leading personalities including the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will take part in the walk urging everyone in Kumasi to grace the event.
Paul Adjei, Events and Promotions Manager at Angel Fm expressed delight about the large number of people that attended the exercise, promising that the station would come up with more programmes to benefit the community.
