In a telephone interview with the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Allotey Jacobs questioned the essence of Dr. Spio Garbrah’s intention as he claimed that “Spio has no following in the NDC,” adding that “he has all the time ridden on the shoulders of the Rawlingses,” and citing the Tamale congress as a vivid instance. “We all know Spio – he will file for nominations only to say on congress day that he and his supporters and delegates have decided to support Nana Konadu,” Allotey Jacobs posited. He continued, “We are knowledgeable and we have eyes to decipher what is good or bad; we know Spio’s colour and we can tell what he is up to.”
The outspoken propaganda secretary described Mr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah, national civic chairman of the NDC who holds the position of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the London-based Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation, as a “dishonest person” who has not good intentions for the Party. He claims Spio comes here to complain about some lapses in President Mills’ governance, goes back to his London, comes back again only to see that President Mills is delivering on all his promises.
According to a source at the party head office, Spio Garbrah, former Education, Communications and Acting Mines & Energy Minister in President Rawlings’ administration, is to be sponsored by several top neutral NDC gurus who are angry with Mills, but don’t want to support Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings. Spio Garbrah, who was said to have raised huge sums of money to help the party campaign in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008, is believed to be sponsored by senior NDC politicians from the Volta Region, wealthy Fanti and Kumasi businessmen and woman and NDC financiers in London, US and Canada are said to be behind his presidential bid.
