Tanzania Daily News (Dar es Salaam) Japheth Kazenga 27 April 2011 DAR ES SALAAM eleven cricketers laid their hands on the trophy in the inaugural Regional U-17 tournament following a three-wicket victory over Uluguru Stars in the final played at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) venue in Morogoro earlier this week. The Dar es Salaam youngsters' triumph underlined the region's dominance in domestic cricket stretched to almost all other Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA)-sanctioned competitions. They won the toss and opted to field, putting their opponent in to bat first but the latter failed to make full use of the innings despite playing at the familiar pitch.

In the end The Beaver was dammed, unable to break through the negative publicity surrounding its star and a put-offish story line about a psychotic individual who speaks through a hand puppet. The movie opened over the weekend in 22 theaters where it earned an estimated $104,000, or about $4,745 per theater, a categorical flop. “I think people will try to read into these numbers and say it is a repudiation of Mel Gibson, its star, but I don’t think that’s true,” Summit executive Richie Fay told the Hollywood Reporter . “The film is a tough sell.” But, in reporting on the results, the Los Angeles Times commented “It appears that Mel Gibson, after well-publicized incidents in which he’s made sexist and anti-Semitic comments, may be losing his clout with moviegoers.” Some observers have suggested that the movie may not turn out to be a complete financial disaster for its backers, Summit Entertainment, Participant Media, and Imagenation Abu Dhabi. The film cost only $22 million to produce and may find a more receptive audience overseas. It is scheduled to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival on March 17, with director/co-star Jodie Foster and Gibson likely to be on hand.
