Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard expects to be fit for the start of next season after making good progress from his groin injury.

The midfielder was ruled out of the Reds’ run-in in March and underwent surgery in order to solve the problem which had hampered him since February.

“I’m doing well. I saw the surgeon this morning and he gave me the green light to push on,” he told the club’s official website.

“So it’s all looking good for me to be back for pre-season.”

The injury meant Gerrard was never going to be in a position to return to the side this season but admits he is two months away from being ready to return for the Anfield club.

“I’m a month in and it’s a three-month rehab,” he explained.

“Things are going well. I just need to progress and push on now, and keep improving.”
