Everton’s Tim Cahill admits to taking ‘massive risk’ by playing

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill reveals that he is risking more serious injury by continuing to play for the club this season.

Cahill has only just returned from a long-term foot injury and has made limited appearances from the bench since returning from international duty with Australia.

It was thought that the midfielder’s season was over three weeks ago, and the former Millwall man has explained that he is gambling on his fitness by making himself available.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “I’m happy to be on the bench and coming on because three weeks ago they’d written me off and said my season was over.

“Yes, I take a massive risk playing but it’s worth it on days like Saturday coming from behind to beat Manchester City.”

The 31-year-old admits that he will have to take a massive rest in the summer in order to be fit for the start of next season.

He added: “I still feel my foot injury. I’m going to have to get a massive rest in the summer but I want to be a part of these good moments and help make a change.

“Maybe sometimes I don’t do myself justice playing because people might feel I’m unfit or not moving well, but the matter of the fact is I’m 80% fit.”
