Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin fears his club will find it difficult to keep hold of starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the face of Premier League interest this summer.

The 17-year-old winger played a key role as the Saints gained promotion from League One this year despite his tender age, but his dazzling displays have not gone unnoticed.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has openly admitted his interest in Southampton’s prized asset, while Manchester United and Liverpool are also thought to be keeping tabs on his progress.

With a challenging season in the Championship to come, Schneiderlin hopes his young team-mate will choose to stay at St Mary’s, but fears the lure of England’s top flight could prove too strong.

“Hopefully Alex will stay with us, but it’s going to be very difficult because every team wants him,” the midfielder told The Sun.

“It will be the chairman and the management staff’s job to keep him, but it’s up to Alex and what he wants.

“We want the best team to get back into the Premier League and Alex is one of the best players.”
