Fulham boss Mark Hughes has hailed the impact Kenny Dalglish has made since returning to the managerial hotseat at Liverpool, and sees no reason why the Scot should not be handed the job on a permanent basis.

Dalglish has revived a Liverpool side who were wallowing in the lower reaches of the Premier League upon his arrival in January, and the Merseyside giants now find themselves in the hunt for a Europa League place next season.

Hughes’ Fulham side play host to Dalglish’s Liverpool on Monday night, and the Welshman had nothing but words of praise for the man he will face in the visiting dugout.

“You’d argue he couldn’t do anything more to be given the Liverpool job to be perfectly honest,” he told reporters.

“There seems to be a delay in making the decision, but I think everyone would be surprised if he didn’t get it.

Liverpool’s excellent form under Dalglish since the turn of the year has highlighted his predecessor Roy Hodgson’s underachievement with the same squad of players, but Hughes preferred to focus on the Scot’s success.

“They’ve got a great squad, but for whatever reason Roy found it difficult to get them pulling in the same direction,” he added.

“They are enjoying their football now, which is a credit to the impact Kenny has been able to have on the group.”
