Gareth Bale will have a scan on his damaged ankle
Wales manager Gary Speed has backed star winger Gareth Bale to make a quick recovery from his ankle injury.
Bale will have a scan on Monday following a tackle by Charlie Adam in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Blackpool.
Speed will now be hoping the 21-year-old can play for Wales at the Four Associations’ Tournament later this month.
“He’s a fit lad so hopefully he will recover quickly,” he told BBC Wales.
Bale was taken off on a stretcher following a tackle from Adam in the 64th minute of the clash with Blackpool at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
And the Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year will have a scan on Monday to determine the extent of the damage.
“It was a bad tackle,” added Speed, who was speaking after watching Llanelli beat Bangor City 4-1 in the Welsh Cup at Parc y Scarlets on Sunday.
“It could have easily been a break but hopefully it will just be ankle ligaments.
“Gareth’s very strong so hopefully it won’t be too bad.”
The injury looks certain to keep Bale out of Spurs’ match against Manchester City at Eastlands on Tuesday.
