Contesting the fixture after fourth placed Manchester City dropped points at Everton earlier in the day, Spurs fell behind after a minute of madness in which Blackpool won two penalties; Charlie Adam missing one and then converting the other.
Dawson conceded the first of the spot-kicks when he handled a cross in the area and despite watching Heurelho Gomes save the kick, the 27-year-old central defender admits he is hurting after the error.
“We’re all so disappointed after seeing the result at Goodison Park earlier in the day,” Dawson told the club’s official website.
“Everyone is hurting and I’m hurting even more after giving that penalty away.
“I got a nudge and as I fell, I threw my hands in the air and the ball hit my hand.
“When I heard the whistle I was praying that he was going to give a free-kick for the nudge, but then Gomes produced a world-class save and I thought I was off the hook.
“They had another corner and I just thought ‘defend this and we’re away’ but they got another penalty and we were then on the back foot.
“We were hoping to put the pressure on City and to get the three points, but it wasn’t to be. We’re all gutted.”
Spurs now sit six points behind City in the race for fourth and know that anything other than a win at Eastlands on Tuesday night will mathematically end their hopes of taking a place in the competition. Dawson is, however, focused on the task in hand.
“It was in our hands to go out and get a win and only be four points behind City going there on Tuesday,” added the former Nottingham Forest man.
“We need three wins now if we’re going to make that top-four spot. We’ve got a good record at City and we’ve got to try and get the three points there first and see where it takes us with Liverpool and Birmingham to follow. We’ll give it our all.”
