Giggs: Was the man of the match for United in the win over Chelsea
Manchester United star Ryan Giggs acknowledges that overtaking Liverpool’s record of 18 league titles will be a ‘great achievement’.
A 2-1 victory over the Premier League’s second-placed team, Chelsea, on Sunday, moved Sir Alex Ferguson’s side six points clear with two games remaining.
A point at Blackburn next weekend will therefore secure a record-breaking 19th league championship and fulfil Ferguson’s pledge to knock Liverpool off their perch.
Man of the match Giggs told Sky Sports of the possibility of surpassing Liverpool: “It’s a great achievement by the team and by the manager to haul back our biggest rivals.”
Giggs also insists United will go for a victory at Blackburn next weekend in the traditional style of Ferguson.
“It’s not mathematically over, but we’re nearly there.”

The 37-year-old Welshman said: “It’s not mathematically over, but we’re nearly there.”
He added with regards to going for a win at Ewood Park: “That’s what we’ll try to do.
“It will be a great atmosphere and, as always, we won’t go for the draw, we’ll go for the win.”
United were 1-0 up inside the first minute thanks to Javier Hernandez and two goals ahead after 23 minutes following a Nemanja Vidic header.
Frank Lampard pulled a goal back for Chelsea in the 68th minute.
