McCarthy: Delighted with win
Mick McCarthy hailed Wolves’ 3-1 win over local rivals West Brom as a ‘huge result’.
Wolves took the three points at Molineux which lifts them out of the relegation zone with just two matches remaining.
And McCarthy admits that being out of the bottom three at the beginning of May does not mean their battle is won.
“It is a huge result,” he told Sky Sports.
“But as I have said it is the 22nd May when it counts, so it a great result and we are out of the bottom three and we want to stay out of the bottom three but we have two huge games to play.”
Set-pieces
McCarthy hailed his side’s set-pieces as two corners in the first half were converted by Steven Fletcher and Adlene Guedioura to set them on their road to victory.
“I would like to think we are good at corners, but Roy will think they did not defend, but re-starts are a big part of the game,” he said.
In the second half Wolves made it 3-0 through Fletcher before a Peter Odemwingie penalty gave West Brom some hope, and they did have chances to close the gap further.
“There were times when we had to keep the ball and we did get at them, but they are safe and they could do damage to us, so we had to get into their faces and see who wanted to win more, but they did put us under pressure in the second half,” he said.
