Windhoek — As the quartet of FNB Orlando Pirates, Eleven Arrows, Black Africa and Civics reaches the crucial stage of the lucrative leo NFA cup semi-finals, they are all hoping for lady luck to smile on them when the tournament resumes this weekend.
Dolam-based giants Pirates will battle it out with coastal outfit Eleven Arrows in what promises to be an intriguing encounter at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on Saturday at 14h00. Regardless of their somewhat lukewarm performance in the domestic league by their own standards, Arrows have been on fire in the early stages of the competition and are expected to be a thorn in the flesh of their opponents.
The coastal boys will depend on some quality service from their two Zimbabwean imports, Peter Ngwenya and Admire Nzukamanja, as well as reliable Zambian import Patrick Banda to cause some trouble for the shaky Pirates’ rearguard.
The Ghosts are still licking their wounds after they lost ground in their aspirations for the coveted league title when they went down 2-1 against traditional rivals Black Africa last weekend. The Buccaneers would be looking at avenging that defeat by beating Arrows to set up a thrilling final against Black Africa in the hope that Africa negotiate their way past Civics in the other semi-final.
However, Pirates go into their semi-final clash against the rampant Arrows without the services of midfield maestro Klaas Blom, who is to start his one-match suspension after he accumulated two cautions during the early stages of the competition.
The Ghosts pair of Johannes “Boetietjie” Seibeb and Theofelus “Ronaldo” Tsowaseb has been in good shape and could cause problems for Arrows’ defence, manned by veteran defender George Hummel and the fast improving Chris Katjiukua.
In the other semi-final clash, the Mighty Civilians will be facing a daunting task when they come up against the in-form Black Africa in what promises to be an action-packed match in the second of a double header at the Independence Stadium at 16h00.
The Gemengde-based outfit are gunning for the double this season after having won the coveted MTC Premiership title with two rounds of matches left.
Ali Akan’s misfiring charges are facing a big challenge to stop their marauding opponents who have been on a good run of late.
The overall winner of the country’s much sought after knockout competition will walk away with a handsome N$ 600,000, in prize money while the runner-up will receive a consolation prize of N$250,000.
The two losing semi-finalists will get N$100 000 each.
The gates open at 12h00 and the entrance fee is N$30,00.
