CAF will be forced to act after the latest trouble in Tunisia |
The African Champions League game between Club Africain of Tunisia and Sudan’s Al Hilal has been abandoned.
Club Africain were just a few minutes away from going out of the competition when fans invaded the pitch, forcing the game to be called off.
The match was tied at 1-1 but Hilal’s 1-0 win from the first leg gave them a 2-1 aggregate lead.
League matches in Tunisia are being played without fans but an exception had been made for continental games.
There are unconfirmed reports that the match officials were attacked.
It is not know what the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) response will be but it is likely that Hilal will go through and that Club Africain will be punished.
A previous Champions League game featuring the Tunisian side against Egyptian team Zamalek was marred by violence and Club Africain were fined by CAF.
The second leg of that tie was abandoned after fans invaded the pitch in Cairo, prompting further action by CAF.
Tunisian football has been in turmoil since the political revolution in the country earlier this year with the league being halted and re-started several times.
