The NPP Presidential candidate had finished addressing a party meeting and was heading towards his car when the enthusiastic party fans, who had waited in front of the meeting venue for many hours, clad in party colours, mobbed him.
Looking very excited for seeing their political idol, the NPP fans started singing party slogans and chanted Nana Akufo Addo’s name, preventing the NPP flagbearer from boarding his car in the process.
The security personnel of the NPP flagbearer had to put in an extra effort to restrain the NPP fans before Nana Akufo Addo could board his waiting car.
Nana Akufo Addo was in the Garden City in the company of other party executives on the ‘All Hands on Deck Tour’ they are embarking on across the country.
The tour, among other things, is aimed at uniting both winners and losers in the just-ended NPP parliamentary primary held in 220 out of 230 constituencies across the country.
Earlier in his address, Nana Akufo Addo warned the NPP fans not to think that the seeming internal wrangling in the NDC would make it easier for the NPP to win the next elections.
He implored the party faithful across the country to concentrate on campaigning seriously to win more votes for the NPP to enable it to kick out the NDC in 2012.
Nana Akufo Addo promised that if voted into power, he would implement proper and effective policies which would lead to provision of jobs for the vibrant youth, most of who are unemployed now.
He added that he had the vision of expanding the Ghanaian economy and promoting education across the entire country so as to ensure that the youth got the best of education and played meaningful roles in the country’s development in future.
The meeting was to make it possible for the party’s top guns to mend all wounds which came about before, during and after the NPP primaries across the various constituencies in the region.
Nana Akufo Addo urged losers in the NPP parliamentary primaries to accept defeat in good faith, pointing out to them that it was politically important and necessary to accept defeat.
Using himself as a case study, he said he hurriedly accepted defeat during the NPP presidential primaries at Sunyani in 1998, and further implored his fans to rally behind the then candidate Kufuor who eventually won the presidency in 2000.
Nana Akufo Addo stressed that his actions in 1998 played a key role in his being elected as the party’s flagbearer in 2008, urging all losers in the NPP primary to join the winners so as to maximize the party’s votes in 2012.
Some NPP gurus accompanying Nana Akufo Addo on the nationwide tour include NPP National Chairman Jake Obestebi Lamptey and General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka ‘Sir John’ among others.
