On-loan Crystal Palace forward James Vaughan expects to leave Everton at the end of this season and sign a permanent contract with the Championship side.

The 22-year-old is desperate to secure first team football and believes he may not be able to break into the Toffees’ starting XI.

The England Under-21 international is due to return to Goodison Park after Saturday’s game with Nottingham Forest, and will have talks with Palace manager Dougie Freedman regarding a contract extension.

Vaughan told the South London Press: “I want to play first-team football and I’ll probably have to leave Everton because I don’t seem part of their plans. It’s unfortunate because I love the club.

“I need to sit down with the gaffer at Palace. We haven’t had the chance to do that yet because everyone is focused on getting as high as we can, but I’m sure we will.

“I need to discuss things with my family and see what is best to do.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute here, so I would definitely consider staying.”
