Their mission? To witness and cheer President John Evans Atta Mills as he picked nomination forms to seek re-election to lead the NDC into Election 2012.
Not even the lack of a sitting space could deter the thousands of fanatical NDC supporters who leisurely streamed their way to the venue.
President Mills, who was accompanied by a number of Ministers and Members of the Council of State, was mobbed by a huge crowd as he personally went to pick up the forms at the Party’s headquarters.
Responding to welcome remarks by party General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, President Mills reminded his potential opponents that they would have to come together to fight the 2012 elections as one party after the national delegates congress.
President Mills upon picking his forms stated that “whoever wins would have to build on the foundation that we are laying now…winning is not the end of the road. What we are in politics for is to raise the living standards of the people.”
He called for a campaign devoid of insults saying “the campaign is not about who can hurl insults at the fastest rate, who can engage in vitriolic attacks…I would like to use this occasion to wish Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings well, I would like her to know that like the true sportsman that I am, we will give her a clean fight but at the end of the day both of us will win…,” President Mills said.
The President is meanwhile launching his campaign at his Osu Kuku Hill office.
