LASAA employs 1,000 to remove election posters in Lagos

Information reaching Daily Guide indicates that the Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, Enoch Teye Mensah, has ordered the closure of Western Steel and Forging Limited at Kpone near Tema, where 14 workers sustained massive injuries in separate explosions which allegedly claimed one life. The directive was issued after a preliminary investigation report was made available to the minister by a team of factory inspectors from the ministry last Tuesday. The minister was said to have met with the management of the company yesterday in a round table discussion where he expressed his disappointment in management’s failure to take the necessary safety measures for the workers.

LAGOS State Signage and Advertising Agency, LASAA, yesterday said it had employed no fewer  than 1,000 youths to rid the state of all election posters across the nooks and crannies of the state.

Making this disclosure at the launch of the “poster clean-up campaign,”  the Managing Director of LASAA, Mr. Tunji Bello, said the renewed effort is geared towards cleaning up the state with a view to restoring its beauty  which the agency believes had been altered by posters pasted in all parts of the state.

Bello who disclosed that the agency was compelled to allow pasting of election posters prior to the election, said the decision was aimed at warding off accusations of partisanship leveled against LASAA.

He revealed that the period of this last general election would be the last time that party candidates would be allowed to paste posters along the highways of the state, saying anyone seeking to paste posters can only do so in designated areas of the state.
