The Germany international goalkeeper’s current contract with his club ends at the end of the 2011-12 campaign. Neuer has already turned down signing a contract extension and has had a host of clubs knocking at his door.
Neuer has ruled out of a move to potential suitors Manchester United and wants to remain in Germany with Bayern Munich said to be keen on his services.
Rangnick, though, hopes that Neuer remains with Schalke and after the club’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester United in the second-leg of its semifinal tie told SAT1: “Regarding Neuer there is nothing new. He has a contract and I hope that he stays. We don’t think about Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler because we have Neuer.”
Reflecting on its loss at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, the Schalke coach is quoted as saying by Uefa.com: “We started well, the first 25 minutes we had more possession, but after a misplaced pass we conceded the first goal.
“You can’t afford this on such a high level and then the game took another direction. You have to say Manchester United were too good for us, we were hitting our limits.”
Schalke had lost the first-leg of its semifinal tie 2-0 in Germany last week.
