GM recalls more than 150,000 Cruzes

Ohakim, who made the appeal in a radio and television broadcast to the people, was also of the view that Imo is a family that could not afford the luxury of losing a single soul in the name of politics.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — General Motors has recalled 154,112 Chevrolet Cruze models in North America to inspect for proper installation of the steering wheel, the automaker said late Wednesday.

Of those 2011-year models, 120,295 with automatic transmissions will be checked for proper installation of their transmission shift linkage. Vehicles on dealer lots will also be inspected. The recalled vehicles were built in Lordstown, Ohio, and sold in the United States and Canada.

According to GM (GM), there were no crashes or injuries associated with the recall.

“We think very few vehicles in the population have either issue, but we chose to conduct these inspections to give customers additional peace of mind about the quality of the Cruze,” said GM Vice President of Global Quality Terry Woychowski. “I conducted a quality inspection of the Lordstown plant this week, and I am confident we have made the necessary process changes so neither of these conditions happens again.”

Strong demand for fuel-efficient autos has boosted Cruze sales. More than 25,000 models were sold in April and more than 75,000 since launch.

On Tuesday, GM reported that U.S. sales were up 27% last month versus a year ago, citing the spike in gas prices and demand for alternatives.  To top of page
