The outspoken NDC MP, who accused the current administration of taking knee-jerk decisions in running the affairs of the country, believes the only way to prevent the bus from veering off course is to change the driver.
He has thus called on members of the NDC fraternity to unflinchingly support the former First Lady’s bid to be flagbearer of the NDC and ultimately the president of Ghana.
“We’re all sitting in a brand new Yutong Bus and we’re going on a long journey. Definitely some will be sleeping in the bus and some will be wide awake. The driver is not driving very well but some are wide awake and they are looking at it (looking on unconcerned). Yet they are saying that “hey, if i talk, the driver will be annoyed”. Some must definitely get up and tell the driver; “Driver, stop! Either we wait a little bit or we get off”. That is exactly what is happening to our great party now. The Yutong bus will get an accident and you’ll have to repair it. Some of the passengers who die will have to be buried at a cost, and some will sustain various degrees of injuries and that is what is happening.”
“Our Yutong bus is trying to veer off the road. NDC, the driver of our Yutong bus is trying to veer off the road – What do we have to do? WE’VE GOT TO CHANGE THE DRIVER!…THE BUS IS GOOD, THE BUS IS BRAND NEW. Those who are awake must wake those sleeping, otherwise if we don’t take care we’ll all veer into a ditch, and we shall have an accident…We’re calling for real change…the bus is good! Our gov’t is taking knee-jerk decisions in running the affairs of the country,” Hon Teye Nyaunu said.
He was speaking at the official launch of Nana Konadu’s campaign to challenge President Mills for the flagbearership slot to lead the NDC in the 2012 general elections.
The campaign launch, preceded by drumming and dancing by numerous supporters of the former First Family, was attended by several dignitaries including chiefs from across the country, particularly from the Volta Region.
Some executive members of the NDC, the diplomatic corps, religious leaders and members of the media were also present to witness the event.
Clearly worked up over some failings of the government, the self-confessed Konadu devotee accused the Mills’ administration of governing as if there is nothing at stake.
“The Mills’ administration refused to do due diligence in investigating cases of corruption that occurred under the erstwhile Kufuor-led NPP administration while a lot of criminals are left off the hook…It is shocking that the NDC has lost all cases in court under the learned Prof. Mills,” Hon Teye Nyaunu said.
He again lambasted the Mills’ government for refusing to tell Ghanaians the stock of debt left by the NPP after they exited office.
“If today, we say ex-president Kufuor left a high debt, that’s why we are finding administering this country very difficult, who will believe us?” he rhetorically asked.
Mr Nyaunu severely criticised President Mills’ decision to keep in office for about four months DCEs who served under the Kufuor government, saying its ripple effect is the inability to prosecute and jail alleged corrupt officials in the Kufuor government.
“Gov’t accommodated NPP MMDCEs in office for some 4 months and over as if the technocrats at the District and Municipal Assemblies were incapable of taking over…The consequences of that decision was that the NPP DCEs were able to remove all traces of corruption…Now we’re in two and a half years of the Mills’ administration and we’ve not been able to prosecute EVEN ONE (PERSON)BECAUSE WE DON’T HAVE EVIDENCE AVAILABLE. What kind of decision is this?”
He warned that if the bus driver is not called to order, they might run into a ditch. To him, the NDC has nose-dived and no other personality than Nana Konadu and her team of leaders can saved the party.
“Our gov’t is running affairs of the country as if we’ve never been in gov’t before…we’re behaving as if this is the first time we’ve come to power. We must be careful least our Yutong bus runs into an accident…Our party is nose-diving and can only be rescued by no other personality than Nana Konadu and her team of leaders,” the NDC MP stated.
