Liberty Party Hails PUL’s Determination

The Liberty Party has extended congratulations to the leadership and members of the Press Union of Liberia for their unbending determination in the fight against all forms of injustices that continue to plague the Liberian Society.

The party sent the well wishes on World Press Freedom Day.

“In particular, Liberty Party extols the Union and its affiliate institutions for the robust coverage they continue to give issues of corruption in our society,” the party said.

It noted that this was especially true of the fact that there was an uphill battle between the forces that take comfort in nurturing the cancerous disease and those that mount a stiff barricade to this menace.

In a related development, Liberty Party entreated the Union and its members not to take complete solace in what is being portrayed today as “unparallel freedom of the press” as there were still vestiges of clamp down on free press in today’s Liberia reminiscent of the past.

“Liberty Party takes particular cognizance of the subtle moves by the Government of President Sirleaf to silence Star Radio, one of the enterprising radio stations in Liberia that was in the vanguard of disseminating unfettered information and education throughout the length and breadth of this country,” it said.

As said as PUL marked Press Freedom Day, the party said prayed that it would reflect on its successes and ensure that the success will serve as a source of added motivation.
