The European Union has again lauded the conduct of the 2011 general elections, just as it maintained that it would soon release a final report on its findings in its observation of the polls.
The EU Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM) last week released a preliminary report where it described the last two rounds of elections as a major improvement on the National Assembly polls.
EU Ambassador to Nigeria, David MacRae, speaking with newsmen at a luncheon in Abuja yesterday however blamed the post- presidential election violence which erupted in some parts of the North on the high rate of unemployment among youths.
He said, “Creating new jobs is central to getting things to work properly in Nigeria and that requires quite a lot of restructuring, and new thinking and good policies to be put in place and this is what we are interested to do through our various cooperation activities.”
He called on politicians who lost during the last elections to accept their losses and work with the winners towards national development.
He also urged them to seek redress in court if they felt aggrieved about the polls.
