Owerri — The governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Imo state has called for the arrest and prosecution of the speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Goodluck Opia and Mrs. Juan Nzeribe, the council chairman of Oguta local government area, who is also the wife of the controversial Oguta-born politician, Sen. Francis Arthur Nzeribe over alleged electoral offences.

He also demanded that Gov. Ohakim’s Special Adviser on Electoral Matters, Barr. Steve Asimobi should face similar fate for personally snatching ballot boxes in polling units in Nkwerre LGA.

The APGA candidate who played video clips that captured those mentioned to journalists in Owerri yesterday, said if those PDP chieftains are not arrested, it would prove that some people are really above the law of the land and Prof. Jega’s effort in Imo state will be rubbished.

He declared that Imo elections were not free and fair, stating that PDP chieftains openly led armed thugs to snatch and hijack electoral materials in the full glare of some security agents and INEC officials even as Ohakim’s agents shared money to voters on the queue.

Okorocha urged Prof. Jega and his team to come down to Imo state on Friday and conduct the supplementary polls, alleging that thumb-printing had already begun in the houses of some PDP chieftains in Oguta, Mbaitoli, Ngor-Okpala and Ohaji-Egbema where the elections will take place on Friday.

He also enjoined the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, to send a special team for the purposes of conducting the Friday election, alleging that some of his men in the state command had already compromised with their professional duties.

But Governor Ohakim has debunked the claims of Okorocha, saying his allegations are tissues of falsehood. Speaking through his political adviser, Mr. Rex Anunobi, the governor said, “There is no substance in Okorocha’s claims.

The claims are tissues of falsehood and blackmail.”
