Former First lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings will today, Wednesday May 4, officially launch her campaign to challenge President Mills for flagbearership slot to lead the NDC in the 2012 general elections.
This is after the wife of former President Rawlings picked up her nominations forms from the party headquarters on Tuesday May 3.
All invited guests are expected to be seated by 9 am at the International Conference Centre for the programme to commence.
Spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams in an interview with Citi News said invitations have been extended to a wide array of personalities and offices including all executive members of the ruling NDC, members of the opposition, the diplomatic corps, Chiefs, religious leaders and members of the media to attend the event.
In all four speakers are expected to address the gathering before Nana Konadu herself speaks on why it is imperative for the NDC to change the leadership in the lead up to the 2012 elections.
Meanwhile, former NDC General Secretary, Dr Nii Josiah Aryeh, who is scheduled to speak at today’s campaign launch says the event will send shock waves across the length and breadth of the country and provide the necessary momentum for the campaign team to work towards winning the presidential bid.
Dr Josiah Aryeh however rejected claims that his support for Nana Konadu’s Presidential bid is to spite the current pro Mills administration supporters.
Dr Aryeh, as recalled was suspended as general secretary in 2004 over allegations that he had betrayed the party to the New Patriotic Party.
Speaking to Citi News, he said he wondered why a democratic government will have failed up to date to deliver justice to him.
“If anything happens and you talk in terms of fairness and democracy and you tell someone that we suspend you, step aside so that we can go into something and then forever you do not produce a report and we say we are a democratic dispensation but we simply walk away without taking notice of the injustice that is being done to another man. How can you convince me that you can convince the villager you don’t know that you could help him.
“We want a situation where we have a party that is utterly and totally committed to the creed of social justice and that is what I am prepared to put my shoulder to the wheels for”.
