Akwesi Appiah Hails ‘World Class’ Michael Essien

Ghana’s female national team coach Anthony Edusei is embroiled in a HUGE scandal after a player accused him of taking bribes from her in exchange for place in the squad. In a secretly recorded tape, Italy-based goalkeeper Alima Moro also said several players in the squad paid bribes to the coach before they were handed call-ups. The allegation comes just two weeks after the Black Queens were shockingly eliminated from the Olympic Games qualifiers by lowly Ethiopia.

Ghana assistant coach Akwesi Appiah has hailed the qualities of Michael Essien describing him “perfect for any first class team in the world”.

The Chelsea ace has been on cloud nine for the English giants since he recovered fully from injury and currently a big part of the side challenging Manchester United for the Premier League crown.

Essien has been on a self imposed exile from the national team after sustaining a career threatening injury during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

Appiah reckons the former Lyon enforcer remains an integral part of the team by hailing his qualities.

“Essien is one of the finest players in the world and will fit into any team. Any team will like to have such a talent in their set-up,” Appiah said.

“I will still insist we should give him some little time to decide on his international future because the young man has been through a lot and it’s only fair he settles and make the best choice.”
