PARTICIPATING teams in this year’s Taifa Cup tournament have submitted lists of their respective players recruited for the event scheduled to kick off in various centres on May 7.

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Information Officer, Boniface Wambura, saidon Friday all 24 combined regional teams, which have confirmed to take part in the tournament, presented their respective lists to the federation on time.

He mentioned the teams and their respective centres in brackets as Mtwara, Ruvuma, Kinondoni and Lindi (Lindi).

Others are Mbeya, Iringa, Temeke and Rukwa (Mbeya), Dodoma, Tabora, Singida and Kigoma (Tabora), Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Tanga and the national U-23 team, Vijana Stars, (Kilimanjaro), Mwanza, Kagera, Mara and Shinyanga (Mwanza),Coast Region, Morogoro, Ilala and Manyara (Morogoro).

“The deadline for official protest against the registration of players for any of the teams is May 2 and the TFF Competition Committee will confirm the teams’ registration a day later,” said Wambura.

He said participating teams should arrive at their respective centres on May 5 and the tournament will start two days later.

Meanwhile, Wambura said the federation is welcoming bids from interested media outlets for broadcasting the Taifa Cup tournament live.

He said the rights for live broadcasting of the tournament cost 10m/- and not a single television station had secured the rights as of Friday.

“TFF announced tenders for broadcasting the Taifa Cup tournament live and two domestic television stations expressed interest in bidding for the rights.

One of them, however, pulled out of the race because of technical issues, while the other failed to reach agreement with the federation on the rights’ costs,” said Wambura.

Singida are the tournament’s defending champions following their unexpected triumph in the last season’s event, in which another unheralded combined side, Lindi, finished as runners-up.
