Uganda: Ura On the Brink of Title, Kcc Falter

URA took a huge step towards clinching the Ecobank Super League title with a 1-0 victory over Police as second-placed KCC drew goalless with visiting Fire Masters at Nakivubo.

Substitute Moses Feni got the all-important goal for URA to move them to 50 points, nine more than KCC. The tax collectors are now four points away from a fourth league title despite the Lugogo-based side having two games in hand.

“That was a big goal and relief on everyone,” URA coach Alex Isabirye said. “Police are a difficult side to break down but after today (yesterday), we’re almost there,” he added.

With both sides inept offensively, the match was a largely dull afair and it took a lapse of concentration between Cops defender Juma Waiswa and Muzamir Nanik for midfielder Feni to capitalise and lob custodian Salim Sowedi in the 54th minute for the lone goal.

Police’s best chance came in the 63rd minute when striker Benson Ocen’s shot was saved brilliantly by URA’s goalkeeper Allan Owiny. URA host relegation-threatened Maroons on Friday, then Victors before winding up against KCC at Nakivubo stadium.

At Nakivubo stadium, KCC blew their slim title hopes after a frustrating goalless draw with lowly Fire Masters. They missed a penalty that wastaken by midfielder Isaac Mugabi.

Elsewhere Victors defeated Masaka 3-1 while SC Villa drew 0-0 with Proline.
