The Enquirer publication of Tuesday, May 3, 2011 reported that ‘Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ popularly known as FONKAR has withdrawn our support for Nana Konadu and have thrown our weight behind President Mills.
FONKAR takes offense to this ill-conceived publication and wants the general public to treat it with every contempt that it deserves. We want to state categorically that FONKAR has nothing to do with the so-called publication carried by the Enquirer newspapers and we want to make it clear that such publication can only come from people with a clear motive to suit their parochial and destructive agenda.
FONKAR is appalled at this level of inept piece of journalism by Raymond Archer and the Enquirer newspaper. One of the cardinal principles of journalism is cross checking of facts and we wonder why the Enquirer did not deem it necessary to cross check the facts from the FONKAR Communications Directorate.
The website www.fonkar.org from which this story was sourced was previously being used by FONKAR. As of February 2011, FONKAR withdrew all of its material and utilization of this website. Any material posted on www.fonkar.org since February 2011 does not reflect any of the views of FONKAR and its members and any false publications by the website with regard to FONKAR and its activities will lead to court action by FONKAR. FONKAR is in the process of launching a new website, details of which would be made available in due course.
It would have been prudent and responsible of Raymond Archer to contact the FONKAR team that he is familiar with to confirm the validity of the said statement.
The misleading publication by Raymond Archer’s Enquirer newspaper and his middling understanding of national politics is a smear on journalism and is also a complete assault on media practice in this country. We call on all those who uphold decency in national discourse to come down very hard on the filth associated with this tainted editor.
It is also worth stating that, the display of unmatched folly by the editor who thinks that, by publishing falsehood, he could purge his innate inadequacies, and become an icon of journalism, is interesting.
Our support for Nana Konadu is unflinching, resolute and unwavering. We cannot support a leader who has obviously lost touch with the reality. Why should FONKAR support Mills? Why should we support a leader who has lost his credit worthiness?
It is clear for all to see, even non-card holders of the NDC, that Mills has lost his mandate to lead the party. The NDC under his leadership is despondent and divided. Never in the history of the great party have we been so divided. Never have we been so visionless. The party under his leadership is at a stalemate and the only solution is for a credible candidate with a new mandate to lead the NDC.
And FONKAR is solidly behind Nana Konadu for president campaign and will continue upholding the legacy of the Rawlings’.

FONKAR DENOUNCES MRS RAWLINGS
When some of us were approached by Mrs. Rawlings to form Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR), it was never our intention to cripple President Evans Atta Mills’ first term or to torpedo his bright chances of a second term.
We were made to understand that, President Mills had already nominated his successor after his second term and that if it is not checked now, it could spark problems for the party after his exit from office.
The FONKAR project was sold to us to project Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings as being interested in the Presidency after President Mills Second Term in office in order to torpedo the President’s agenda of selecting a successor. This was supposed to be a decoy.
It was in this spirit that we all agreed to join the train. Little did we know that our dear mother was going to use us to run aground our distinguished President whose record within the 27 months is evidenced by the numerous developments which have sprung up across the length and breadth of the country and whose record in public office is unquestionable. We are also disappointed that she used our support for FONKAR to literally stage a coup against the Mills administration.
Little did we know that the formation of FONKAR was a hidden agenda by Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to spearhead her long-held presidential ambition. We supported FONAKR believing that we were protecting the true ideals that this great party has stood for all this years. We were initially convinced that she had shed her vindictive past and would be a born again politician who wanted to help the great NDC party select someone with hope and ideas to build a prosperous and strong nation after President Mills’ second term.
It is sad to state however that after working closely with Mrs. Rawlings over the past months, we have come to one conclusion she tricked us- Ghanaians must never allow this woman near the presidency. If she can mislead and betray us in such a manner, she can mislead the nation.
During our time with her, we have grinned as she supervised some latter day FONAKR members of the party to attack and insult our beloved President and some distinguished members of the government.
We have been disappointed to see how they have concocted and told wicked lies against perceived opponents in our party and how she feels the NDC is the personal property of herself and her husband which she must get back at all cost, even if it meant crippling the excellent government and sending the NDC into opposition.
When our founder stated that none of her family members were interested in the President’s job, we had hope that he was reiterating the original aims and ideals of FONKAR, Mrs. Rawlings quickly sent us txt messages saying, “our founder boomed” and that not even her husband Mr. Jerry John Rawlings can compare his efforts in building the NDC to that of hers.
Having associated closely with Mrs. Rawlings, she clearly has no vision for Ghana. Her ambition is not only ill-timed and borne out of a dangerous sense of ownership of the great NDC which should be a public trust belonging to the people; she is also a danger to the party’s sense of cohesion and our chances for 2012.
Listening to the concerns of party supporters across the length and breath of the country and judging from the rousing endorsement from our regional executives, we the silent and original promoters of FONKAR denounce our support for Nana Konandu Agyeman Rawlings and ask all descent, peace-loving progressive NDC supporters to treat her inordinate ambition with utter contempt and pray to the Almighty God that such a woman is never visited on us.
