UEFA’s head of referees Pierluigi Collina will oversee the Champions League semi-final, second-leg clash between Spanish titans Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Collina’s duty will be to assess the performance of match official Frank de Bleeckere as he attempts to curb the controversy that marred the fist leg – most notably the sending off of Madrid’s Pepe and the ensuing banishment of their coach Jose Mourinho to the stands.
The move by UEFA is a direct response to the wave of off-the-field controversies that have engulfed the two sides in the build up to tonight’s clash, according to the Daily Mail.
Earlier this week Collina described Mourinho’s claims that Madrid were suffering the effects of a pro-Barcelona conspiracy within the UEFA organization as ludicrous.
