Sulley Muntari will definitely not be joining Sunderland on a permanent basis at the end of the season, the Ghanaian’s agent has confirmed.

The former Portsmouth man has made just eight appearances for the Black Cats since signing on loan from Inter in January and the club are unwilling to break the bank to sign him this summer.

His agent, Fabien Piveteau, said: “There is no chance at Sunderland for Sulley. They have decided he is too expensive.”

Piveteau also represents defender John Mensah, and says that a deal is likely to be struck between Sunderland and the centre-back’s parent club Lyon.

“For John there is a good chance,” said Piveteau.

“The situation with him is that if he played 25 games he would definitely sign for Sunderland but he has only played 18 at the moment.

“He has not played all of the games but it has been a different type of injury this season for John. At the moment I think results are the priority, but the coaches will talk with him soon about next season.”

Mensah is currently on his second loan spell at Sunderland after manager Steve Bruce wanted another chance to see if the defender could overcome his persistent injuries.
