The declaration was made by the members of the party after going on a float dubbed “GET ATTA MILLS ENDORSED” through some of the principal streets in Cape Coast at the weekend.
Speakers at the forum said they would follow up their campaign after the endorsement of Professor Mills at the Sunyani congress with another vigorous vote catching crusade of “GET ATTA MILLS ELECTED” in the 2012 elections.
The forum at the Cape Coast Town Hall was attended by party stalwarts in the region including Mr E. K. T. Addo, Mr Kofi Mintah, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Hanna Tetteh; Professor F. Quartey, the Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney-General and the member of Parliament for Cape Coast, Mr Barton Odro; the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr Samuel Adu-Yeboah and the Central Regional Minister, Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe.
Mr Adu-Yeboah, who set the tone, urged delegates from the region to vote massively for Professor Mills to continue with the NDC’s manifesto of “Better Ghana Agenda.”
Mr Adu-Yeboah said even though the Mills administration inherited huge debts from the Kufuor administration, it had stabilised the economy with sound economic policies.
He said the NDC government under President Mills had provided classroom blocks for senior high schools across the country, to cope with the four-year senior high school programme.
He said President Mills’s government had also improved the water supply system in most communities whilst the sectors of the economy had also been improved.
Mr Yalley Anaman called on the delegates from the 19 constituencies in the region to show the way for the rest to follow.
The Deputy Majority Chief Whip and member of Parliament for Mfantseman East, Mr George Kuntu Blankson, said nothing would stop President Mills’s march for a second term in office.
The Western Regional Women’s Organiser, Madam Araba Tagoe, said the retention of Professor Mills as the flag bearer of the party in the 2012 elections would boost the chances of the NDC to retain power.
Professor S. F. Quartey, a Vice Chairman of the party, said the NDC would lose the 2012 elections if Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings is elected as the flag bearer and urged delegates not to be deceived by any monetary rewards.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Hanna Tetteh, said, despite the smear campaign by the opposition that President Mills would not be his own man when elected as President, he had proved those sceptics wrong with his style of government which is anchored on the principles of rule of law, humility and respect for human rights, freedom and dignity.
She advised the delegates not to make the mistake of undermining their own President and vote overwhelmingly for their own son at the July congress in Sunyani.
The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, said no one contested Rawlings during his term and that President Mills deserved a second term for his achievements.
