Sulley Muntari To Leave England As Sunderland Reject Him

Daily Independent (Lagos) Peter Edema 2 May 2011 The Nigeria Football Assured will ensure that Flying Eagles is well-prepared for the bigger challenges of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, so says its President Aminu Maigari. Maigari, speaking at the High Commission of Nigeria in Pretoria on Sunday night, hours after the team defeated Cameroon 3-2 to lift the African Youth Championship trophy in Johannesburg for the sixth time, said the NFA would do everything within its limited resources to prepare the team for global glory. "We know the limits of our resources, but we are here and now assuring that within those limits, we would do everything to prepare the team for the greater challenges of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari will not be playing for Sunderland next season after the English side told him he is too expensive.

Muntari, a Ghana international, has been on loan at the Stadium of Light since January, joining the Black Cats from Inter Milan.
Inter were hoping to sell him for £8m to Sunderland and his wages of £80,000 per week also discouraged the club.

The Black Cats were offered by deal to acquire Muntari at the reduced price but they have declined to sign him on a permanent deal.
“There is no chance at Sunderland for Sulley,” agent Fabien Piveteau confirmed.

“They have decided he is too expensive.”

Sunderland have at least £18 million to spend after the sale of Darren Bent to Aston Villa in January and Piveteau.

Muntari was hoping a good performance in his loan stint could land him a permanent return to the English League but a calf injury and not-too-impressive looks to have scuppered the deal

, who also represents John Mensah, claims a deal for the Lyon loanee remains a possibility.
