Abudwak — Monsoon showers started to fall in parts of central Somalia after more than three years of drought.
People in Mudug and Galgudud said rainfalls were seen. The rains raised hopes of drought affected people that life could return to normal.
On the other corner, the torrential rains caused damages, destroying a lot of hut made of plastic sheets and old clothes, a shelter for internally displaced people from ongoing battles in Mogadishu and other areas in the country.
Rains are also reported to have poured in the districts of Dhusamareb, Abduwak and other parts of Galgudud region.
Central Somalia has been most affected by the drought. People there had been in the last few days bracing for good rainfalls to start in the Hiran, Galgudud and Mudug regions.
At least 30 people, many of them children and elderly, were recently reported to have died from famine-like conditions in central and southern Somalia this month.
Much of the country has endured a severe lack of seasonal rainfall for the past three years.
