Ajax Cape Town took a giant step towards their maiden Premier League crown in South Africa when they opened-up a three-point lead at the top of the table over their title rivals.
The Urban Warriors managed a scrappy, less-then-convincing 2-1 victory over AmaZulu on Fruday night, coming back from a goal down at the Athlone Stadium.
After Ayanda Dlamini had given Usuthu a two-minute lead, Khama Billiat and Clayton Daniels earned the three points for a nervous-looking Ajax.
Orlando Pirates were then beaten 1-0 by SuperSport United, Bafana Bafana centre-back Morgan Gould scoring the only goal of the game, a potential hammer-blow to their title-chances.
Mamelodi Sundowns kept their hopes alive with a comfortable 2-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs, who have now dropped out of the race.
Sundowns are five points behind Ajax but do have a game in hand away at AmaZulu and could close that gap to just two points. Their goals in the win over Chiefs came from Elias Pelembe and Nyasha Mushekwi.
Bloemfontein Celtic sealed fifth spot with an emphatic 4-1 victory over BidVest Wits, Siphelele Mthembu netting twice to go with a striker from Danny Venter and an own goal from Derrick Spencer. Sifiso Vilakazi scored for Wits.
Vasco da Gama were the big losers in the battle to avoid the relegation play-off position as they lost 5-3 at home to fellow strugglers Platinum Stars.
Dikwena are now safe, but with Moroka Swallows beating Free State Stars and Maritzburg United coming out on top against already relegated Mpumalanga Black Aces, things look bleak for Vasco.
Finally, Santos won their first match in 11 games as they beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 4-3 in a thrilling mid-table battle.
