Lambert: Has guided Norwich to back-to-back promotions
Paul Lambert branded Norwich’s promotion to the Premier League as a ‘miracle’ after they clinched their place in the top-flight for next season against Portsmouth.
The Canaries booked their place with one match to spare after capitalising on third-placed Cardiff’s defeat to Middlesbrough on Monday night by snatching a 1-0 victory at Fratton Park.
Norwich have stormed straight up the Championship after climbing out of League One last season, making them the first team to achieve back-to-back promotions to the top-flight since Manchester City in 2000.
And jubilant manager Lambert marvelled at his side after the whistle blew on their promotion-sealing triumph over Pompey.
Miracle
“I think it’s unbelievable what’s happened here in the last two years,” Lambert told Sky Sports HD1.
“It’s a miracle, that’s what it is. It’s an absolute miracle.
“I never thought this was going to happen. To come from League One and to do it back-to-back, honestly it’s a miracle that it’s happened.
“But the lads and that group of fans deserve it.”

Lambert refused to take the credit for the Canaries’ achievement, heaping praise on the people around him at the club.
“The biggest compliment I can give them is that they’re an absolute brilliant group to work with,” he said.
“They’ve given everything that is possibly in their body and they’ve been an absolute credit to the football club.
“Also the backroom staff, I’ve got to mention that. They’re been absolutely brilliant.”
Secret
When asked what the secret was to back-to-back promotions, Lambert was in no doubt, replying: “Good players. I think better managers than myself will tell you that. I’m proud of them, absolutely proud of them.”
Lambert admits he needs some time for the achievement to sink in before he starts preparing for life in the top-flight with the Canaries.
He added: “The lads have earned the right to give it a go. Let me get over this first and then we’ll see what happens.”
