Customs Cautions Against Illegal Importation of Arms

Abuja — The Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Abdullahi, has cautioned against illegal importation of arms, and charged officers and men to remain vigilant to ensure that those who do not mean well for the country have no opportunity to import items that could destabilise the country.

The Customs boss, in a statement issued yesterday by the national Deputy Public Relations Officer, Joseph Attah, also commended officers and men of the service for their vigilance before and during the general elections.

He noted that the deployment of officers, equipped with 30 hilux patrol jeeps and two helicopters to beef up security at all entry points have paid off, as there was no incidence of illegal importation of arms and other dangerous weapons during the elections.

The CGC noted that the harmonious working relationship between the Customs and other security agencies underscores the need for security agencies to collaborate in the interest of the nation.

He also commended his men for their vigilance which led to the seizure of some military uniforms at the Aminu Kano Aairport a few days to the elections while also noting that their assistance to ensure orderliness and security of voters during the election, in some states of the federation such as Kebbi, Kano, and Ibadan, amongst others, was also commendable.

Dikko, however, charged officers and men to remain vigilant to ensure that those with evil intent, who do not mean well for the country, have no opportunity to import dangerous items capable of destabilising that nation, and ruin her quest to actualising the vision 20:2020.
