Dalglish: Liverpool boss wants video technology introduced

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish firmly believes it is time for video technology to be introduced in the Premier League.

The title race has been blown wide open by Manchester United’s defeat at Arsenal and Chelsea’s controversial success over Tottenham.

The defending champions levelled against Spurs through Frank Lampard shortly before half-time following a blunder by Heurelho Gomes, but replays showed the ball did not fully cross the line.

Dalglish saw the Reds climb to fifth in the table with their 3-0 success over Newcastle on Sunday, with further reports claiming the interim boss would be handed a permanent deal in the coming days.

When asked if he was set to sign a new contract at Anfield, Dalglish joked: “I don’t know. I’ve never asked – maybe goalline technology will be in first!

“We’ll just keep going and see what we get. They’ve got this far because of how hard they’ve worked. They’ve done ever so well in training and they’ve brought that on to the pitch.

“Some of the passing and movement has been better than it was today but the energy and the effort was the same as it has been in all the games. They’ll get the reward if they keep doing that.

“But as for using technology, I don’t know why everyone is stubbornly against it.

“When competitions are that important you deserve the best you can get.

“I don’t see any reason why it can’t be there. I’m sure it has been tested somewhere.”
