The boisterous city was unusually quiet as the streets were virtually empty, and any first time visitor to the Garden City would have thought it was a public holiday.
DAILY GUIDE’s checks at various parts of the city revealed business and other activities were visibly not in existence. A visit to Adum, the central business district of the city in the afternoon, saw the usual busy streets bare, with no cars including commercial and private plying the road.
Also significant was the fact that most of the shops at Adum were closed, causing some challenges for weekend shoppers who had travelled from far and near to shop. Marian Masud, who had traveled from Kentinkrono to Adum to shop, said she was surprised about what she was seeing as there was nobody in town.
According to her, she normally found it extremely difficult to move around in Adum whenever she visited the place to shop on Saturdays “but today the story is totally different.” Madam Masud told DAILY GUIDE that she could not find the items she wanted due to the fact that most of the shops were closed, noting, “NPP has sent Kumasi dead.”
A taxi driver, Kwadwo Awuah, lamented about the low patronage of his services, saying, “Nobody is picking my car today. The whole place is very quiet and empty.”
The taxi driver said he was not surprised “because whenever NPP organizes programmes in Kumasi, the entire city comes to a standstill with no activities going on.”
According to him, almost all residents in Kumasi supported NPP so whenever there was a party programme, they forgot about their businesses and attended it.
