Premier League Team of the Week: Our Arsenal-inspired defence features Szczesny, Clichy & Koscielny

As the season draws to a close, the hallmarks of a title twist have started to emerge in the Premier League.

After Chelsea secured a 2-1 victory over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, courtesy of a Heurelho Gomes fumble and a generous linesman decision, the gap between Carlo Ancelotti’s side and leaders Manchester United was cut to three points.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s charges subsequently failed to reaffirm their six-point advantage after losing to Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.

For the fourth-place battle, Manchester City cemented their Champions League ambitions with a 2-1 win over West Ham on Sunday, while Liverpool also staked a late claim with a convincing 3-0 victory over Newcastle.

In the relegation dogfight, Blackburn helped their survival cause with a one-goal victory over Bolton. Wigan, despite conceding the lead, are a point better off following their 1-1 draw at home to Everton, while Blackpool held Stoke to a goalless stalemate at Bloomfield Road.

West Brom won their Midlands derby against Aston Villa to push into the giddy heights of 11th, as Sunderland’s freefall continues following their 3-0 defeat at home to Mark Hughes’ Fulham.
