Nairobi — Chemelil Sugar were held to a barren draw by visiting City Stars in a Kenyan Premier League match at the Chemelil Complex on Saturday.
The match was a see-saw affair as both sides played a scrappy game with a few chances in the match that saw City Stars striker Jimmy Bagaye’s impressive runs cut off by towering defender James Omino.
Tonny Opondo’s volley in the 40th minute hit the woodworks.
In Mombasa, Gor Mahia Mombasa Branch Fan Club has protested bitterly about Congo United FC increasing gate charges during their team’s Kenya Premier League (KPL) match against Congo United at Mbaraki Sports Club on Sunday.
The branch treasurer, Joseph Were, on Saturday vowed that their fans would not to pay inflated gate charges which he termed as unfair.
Were said Congo United FC should charge Sh100 as has been the case in all their previous matches including last weekend’s clash against AFC Leopards.
“Is it fair for our fans to pay more than Sh100 to watch their team in action?,” quipped Were, who accused Congo of using Gor to sort out their financial woes.
Ordinary stands
He warned that if Congo would stand by their decision to charge more than Sh100, Gor fans could watch the match free of charge. But he did not elaborate if they will force their way without paying.
Congo United technical director, Aref Baghazally has earlier told the Nation that they intend to charge Sh200 for the ordinary stands and Sh300 for the VIP stand.
Baghazally asked the fans to accept the charges for the club which is non-institutional, has no sponsors need the money for the players’ salaries and expenses.
He asked their fans to turn up in great numbers and make it early because if they delay, they will be overshadowed by Gor supporters.
“It’s a game which our players need total cheering from our fans,” said Baghazally.

Were announced that all plans to welcome Gor Mahia team were completed yesterday and that after the game, they will have a special entertainment at the Club Studio in Kengeleni, Kisauni. Meanwhile, a new date for the national football elections initially scheduled for on Saturday will be announced this week.
According to Fifa Associations Committee member, Leodegar Tenga, once the Independent Electoral Board (IEB) meets with the Independent Electoral Commission of Kenya (IIEC).
“Once these two bodies meet, which we expect to be in a few days, we will be in a position to announce the new date for the election,” said Tenga. “It is very imperative for Fifa to adhere to the call of Kenyans and the entire football fraternity if at all we need to come up with a long term solution to the problems facing Kenyan football.”
Even as Kenyans eagerly await the long overdue date, Kenya Football Federation (KFF) chairman, Sam Nyamweya has refuted claims that his association has merged with Football Kenya Limited ahead of the elections.
He said they KFF and FKL) are two different entities and there was no way they could merge.
