Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp insists his key players are not for sale, highlighting the team will never progress if the likes of Gareth Bale, and Luka Modric depart.

Spurs look unlikely to clinch a Champions League place this season having been knocked out of the competition and sit six points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City.

Redknapp, however, maintains that his motto has never been to sell his best players to generate profit.

“I hate it when people say, ‘If they don’t make the Champions League they’re going to sell Bale or Modric’,” Redknapp said according to the Daily Mirror.

“That’s not the way forward. The way forward now is to say, ‘Let’s go and find one or two top-drawer players and move on again to get back in the ­Champions League’.

“Gareth and Luka came here when we weren’t in the Champions League and they know we’re a good side. But what we have to do now is show them we do mean ­business.”

Redknapp believes his side may need an injection of new faces to boost their Champions League qualification hopes next term but has dismissed the chances of spending as much as his rivals.

“I haven’t spoke to Daniel Levy about it but I’m sure he’ll be positive. Chelsea looked like they might drop out of the top four so went and spent £75 million on two players because they wanted to stay in there.

“I’m not saying we should spend £75m but we need to keep positive and moving forward.”
