Two NPP constituencies in Volta elect female candidates

Hohoe-North and Hohoe-South constituencies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta Region, on Saturday April 30 elected two women parliamentary candidates for the 2012 polls.

Mrs Janet Emefa Obro-Adibo, was elected by delegates of Hohoe-North and Madam Emma Kartey, 50, who was unopposed, was acclaimed by delegates of Hohoe-South.

Mrs Obro-Adibo polled 291 out of 467 votes, representing 52.31 per cent to beat her only contestant, Mr Mallon Anipah, a development consultant, who obtained 176 votes, representing, 37.69 per cent of the votes cast.

There was a rejected ballot, in an election supervised by Mr Kwabena Karikari, Hohoe Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission.

Mrs Obro-Adibo, thanked the delegates for the trust reposed in her adding that her election marked change and victory for democracy.

She called for zeal on the part of NPP supporters, now that the political battle line has been drawn to wrestle the seat from the incumbent National Democratic Congress.

Mrs Obro-Adibo called for support from party members to enable NPP to execute its electoral agenda, indicating that the campaign for the 2012 General Election has began.

Mr Anipa pledged total support towards the campaign in the constituency for victory.

Mr Harry Abednego Adzrakor, First Vice Chairman of the NPP Hohoe-North Constituency, congratulated the delegates for the smooth conduct and sense of judgement during the voting.

He commended the NPP for the novelty it was introducing to the election of candidates in the political arena.

Madam Kartey, was acclaimed unopposed as the NPP candidate for Hohoe-South, at a similar event held at Golokwati.
