Gerrard: Targeting pre-season return for Liverpool after undergoing groin operation

Steven Gerrard is confident of making a swift recovery after surgery on a troublesome groin problem.

The Liverpool skipper was ruled out of the remainder of the season after going under the knife in early April.

And, having struggled with the problem for a number of years, Gerrard is hopeful he can now concentrate on his recovery.

He believes the club were right to send him for an operation and he is now in a positive frame of mind regarding his future fitness.

The England midfielder said: “Being injured is absolutely killing me.

“The manager and everyone else do their best to make you feel part of it but unless you are out there starting every week it doesn’t quite feel the same.

“Having said that, I am pleased I have had the surgery because for the first time in a while I’m feeling confident about my groin.

“Fingers crossed I’ll be there on the first day of pre-season.”
