Frank Lampard believes that Chelsea deserved to beat Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp felt hard done by the controversial nature of the two goals scored by the opposition, which on another day could just as easily have been ruled out.

The Blues’ first goal, scored by Lampard – who was denied a legitimate goal against Germany in the World Cup last year – saw goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes fumble the ball before recovering to claw it to safety.

However, a referee’s assistant deemed that the whole of the ball had crossed the line, and as a result Chelsea drew level before eventually going on to win the game with a late strike from Salomon Kalou, who appeared to be in an offside position.

“We deserved the win and have kept our title hopes alive,” Lampard said, according to The Daily Mail.

“I was due one of those controversial goals after not getting a big decision in the summer. It’s unlucky on Spurs but you get what you deserve. We created enough to win the game.”
