It was apt that the player who opened the scoring for the west London club was Adel Taarabt, who has been their star going forward all season.
Tommy Smith sealed the win during injury time for the Hoops who will now be mixing it with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
Taarabt has weighed in with 19 league goals for Rangers in a season that has seen them lose just one game at Loftus Road.
Manager Neil Warnock will now be looking to keep Taarabt, who he signed from Tottenham, along with other key members of the QPR squad, as he looks to build for next season in the Premier League.
The only negative surrounding the promotion is the impending Football Association investigation and subsequent hearing this week over QPR’s Argentine midfielder, Alejandro Faurlin, who signed in 2009.
In March, The FA charged the club and issued a statement reading that the charges: “Concern the alleged existence of an agreement between the club and a third party in respect of Faurlin’s economic rights, and the alleged failure by the club to notify the FA of that agreement before the player was registered to play in England in July 2009”.
If the club is found guilty, it could face a potential points deduction that may affect its promotion, which was initially granted with the win at Watford.
QPR issued a statement at the time stating: “Having co-operated fully with the FA’s investigation, QPR and Mr Paladini shall be denying all of the charges and requesting a formal FA hearing to determine them. QPR and Mr Paladini are confident that there has been no deliberate wrongdoing involved.”
A decision is expected on Thursday, but until then the QPR faithful will celebrate having the club earn promotion.
